- Story Text: British band Coldplay wowed thousands of music fans at Rio de Janeiro's Rock in Rio on Saturday (October 1).
The massive crowds that turned out for what was billed as the world's biggest music festival were also able to see other bands like U.S. pop group Maroon 5, Mexico's Mana and Brazilian group Skank, which had several hit songs in the 1990s.
Fan Fernando Garcia said the festival was perfect in all senses.
"The music is 100 percent, the public is 100 percent, the vibes are 100 percent; everything here is great. Rock in Rio is 100 percent," he said.
Fan Roberta Rodrigues said everyone should get a taste of Rock in Rio.
"Coldplay are amazing, Maroon 5 are also wonderful. Everyone should be here, come on people," she said.
The first foreign attraction to perform on the main stage were the Mexican rockers who are savouring success with an album that has been on top of the Latin Billboard charts for weeks.
Mana put on a one hour concert alternating between their upbeat pop and new songs from the latest album "Drama y Luz" (Drama and Light).
Next on stage were U.S. pop band Maroon 5, which have been topping the Billboard Hot 100 list with their song "Moves Like Jagger" which also features singer Christina Aguilera.
The band played a repertoire of their best and most popular hits like "This Love" and "She Will be Loved," which got the crowd singing along.
But the night definitely belonged to Grammy Award-winning Coldplay, whose soaring atmospheric tunes made the crowd roar with excitement, especially as they played songs like their hit "Viva La Vida" and "The Scientist".
Their latest European tour was a sell-out and Saturday night's tickets for Rock in Rio were the most sought after by fans. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
