- Story Text: Bomb blasts ripped through the capital city of Kathmandu in Nepal on Tuesday (June 8) early morning injuring five people.
Two explosions took place 20 minutes apart.
A group calling themselves Nepal Swatantra Party claimed responsibility.
One taxi parked along a road blew up. Shortly after, another car exploded as crowds had gatered to see the first destroyed vehicle.
"As soon as we approached the scene, we heard the blast and there was a crowd. But we managed to keep the crowd away," said an unidentified police officer.
The vehicle was completely damaged. On lookers loaded it onto a truck in order to move it away from the area.
The injured were sent to a nearby hospital, while police and soldiers moved onlookers away from the scene.
"As there was another blast after the first one, there was no sense in going there. So we immediately called the fire brigade and after they put out the fire. They found a socket, which we think is part of the explosive of the bomb," the police officer added.
The Nepal Swatantra Party is a new party and was not known before. The secretary who released a statement saying they are responsible said the purpose of the bomb was to show their resentment against the extension of the constituent assembly term. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
