- Story Text: The man who combines rock superstardom with a conscience, British singer/songwriter Sting made his first ever visit to Jordan to play in front of five thousand fans on the second leg of his Middle Eastern tour.
Sting performed a range of his hits spanning 20 years ranging from his earl hits with The Police like Message in a Bottle, Roxanne, Every Breath you Take as well as newer numbers like Desert Rose, with Cheb Mami, and Mad About You.
Sting's visit to Jordan is the second leg of his tour of the Middle East that also took him to Dubai, where he performed two concerts on April 19th and 20th, he goes on to Cairo where he is scheduled to perform on April 25th.
In a press conference before the concert, the well known environmentalist to be drawn into commenting in the political upheaval in the neighboring Palestinian West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The stop in Jordan, part of Stings' Brand New Day tour, also featured Cheb Mami, Algerian rai music star, who is an accompanying vocalist on the "Desert Rose" worldwide hit.
All proceeds from the concert went to the Promise Welfare Society, a well established charity organization in Jordan whose mission is to provide educational, medical and financial assistance to needy Jordanian families.
As well as Cheb Mami, ten top-class musicians are accompanying the singer including world famous drummer, Manu Katche, who is considered to be one of the drummers in the world today. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
