- Story Text: Story: South African born actress Charlize Theron and Irish singer and Live Aid Initiator Sir Bob Geldof where among the laureates at the German media awards "Golden Camera" on Thursday (February 2, 2006).
The star studded event took place in chilly Berlin on Thursday (February 2) at around minus five degrees Celsius, the cold not keeping the likes of Theron and the all female Los Angeles based band The Pussycat Dolls from turning up in strapless dresses and high heeled sandals.
Theron was awarded the International Film award.
"I love coming back to Germany because only in Germany you show a clip of my naked bum. They would never do that in America," joked Theron upon receiving the small Golden Camera.
Geldof received an Honorary Award for his Live Aid and Live 8 projects. He reminded Germany of its
responsibilities and decisions made at the G8- meeting in July last year.
"Chancellor Merkel repeated last week, that Germany would live up to its promise", Geldof said. "Our objective now together is to keep that promise, because if we do not keep that promise, if Germany does not keep the promise it signed on July 6 then all the people will die and all of this will not have happened. But chancellor Merkel said she will keep the promise, and now we must do that. Thank you for this, thank you Germany, you are a great country."
The Pussycat Dolls were honoured for their impact on the music scene in 2005.
Legendary entertainer and guest of honour Jerry Lewis received a standing ovation that lasted for several minutes when making a guest appearance, reminiscing about his then black and white comedy performances with star comedian Dean Martin. Lewis had received a Golden Camera for lifetime achievement in 2005.
