Jane Fonda, the United States (US) movie actress and leading international keep-fit enthusiast, has been running around the Kremlin to promote good US-Soviet relations and physical fitness.
A circus atmosphere prevailed as hundreds of women of all gas and from all walks of life turned up in Moscow's Red Square on Thursday (October 18) to join Fonda in a 2,600-metre (3,000 yards) run.
The event was organised jointly by the Moscow Committee of Culture and Sport; Soviet Television; the newspaper Pravda; and Ted Turner, the head of the US television organisation, Turner Broadcasting.
Fonda told the runners that she was bringing them "running, walking and physical exercise with love from the women of America."
The race had no official winner.
