- Story Text: Parents brought out their babies and competitive spirit for the 6th annual diaper derby held ahead of the New York City triathlon on Friday (August 1).
In the end, 12-month old Liam Herrold beat out his twin to take the title.
"His brother is actually the better crawler but he'll. (baby removes mic cover) He really is the faster crawler. But he loves his dad so much and was trying to his dad," his mother Nicole Herrold said as Liam attempted to disassemble the microphone.
Liam's father jokingly said they've been preparing for the race at home.
"He's been working on it for a year now. He has been working on his training. He pushes furniture around the apartment to build his leg strength," said John Herrold.
Event organizer John Korff said it's all fun and games.
"Nobody goes home crying for any reason other than it's time to cry, it's nap time. So this is a lot of fun."
The derby is just one part of the family events being held for athletes participating in the 14th annual triathlon on August 3. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
