- Story Text: Fans in India are enjoying the Cricket World Cup en masse.Instead of sitting at home and watching it on television they can visit restaurants and even a cinema to watch the matches with scores of other supporters.
Fans visiting a cinema theatre in the north-western Indian city of Jaipur on Friday (May 14) could see the games on the big screen.
The cinema has suspended screening of films during the tournament and collaborated with a sports channel to screen cricket matches instead.
The cinema will not only screen the matches live but has a replica of Lords cricket ground, Big Ben, the Tower of London and a red double-decker bus to give a London flavour to the proceedings.
Even the ushers are dressed up like guards at Buckingham Palace.
Theatre owner Surendra Golcha said the idea was to bring best of both the stadium and pleasures of television.
"We have tried to combine both the things. Here in the auditorium, you are surrounded by about 1,300 people. So that gives a feel as if you are sitting in the stadium", said Golcha.
"So when, there is a six, people howl and shout. At the same time you see all the best parts of what the TV shows today,"
he added. An hotel in the Indian capital New Delhi has also decided to hold special screening of the matches during the tournament.
The hotel has also prepared a special menu to celebrate the event."Sachin's straight drive", "Jayasuriya's Hook", "Waugh's on drive" and "Lord's delight" are some of the names of the dishes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
