  • Story Text: Cricket...and on the second day of the match between Guyana and touring Australians, Guyanese batsman Timur Mohamed scored a patient 116 in his side's first innings score of 411 for nine, declared. Mohamed put on 173 for the third wicket with Mark Harper, who scored 94.

    SYNOPSIS: Early on, Harper survived this appeal from Australian bowler Ian Callen. Then Gary Cosier had no better luck with an appeal for leg before wicket.

    Bowler Trevor Laughlin learns there is nothing for him in the pitch as Harper helps himself to another four.

    Cosier again...and Mohamed puts him away for three more. At this stage, both batsmen were going confidently for their shots.

    Harper was now punishing the Australian attack, striking eight fours in his first 50. Here's one splendid boundary from one of Yardley's off-spinners. And here's another off Laughlin.

    Mohamed scores two off Yardley to bring up his hundred partnership with Harper. Their strokeplay was evidence of the abundant batting talent that is now flourishing throughout the West Indies.

    As the partnership grew, Laughlin was roughly treated by both batsmen. Harper hit him for four...then Mohamed repeated the treatment. By tea, they had taken Guyana's score to 194 for two.

    Finally, Cosier broke the big stand by bowling unlucky Harper, who was on 94.

    Mohamed takes a single off Callen to raise his century. He had scored 100 of the 220 runs added since he had come to the wicket.

    Just before the close, Laughlin had Evans leg before wicket for a useful 29.
