- Story Text: Former manager of singer Gloria Trevi is sentence to
almost eight years in prison for kidnapping, rape and
corruption of minors.
The former manager of Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi
was sentenced on Tuesday (March 22, 2005) to almost eight years
in prison for rape, kidnapping and corruption of minors.
But Sergio Andrade may get out of jail early on
conditional freedom, if he pays a fine within a time limit.
He's already served five years in prison.
In the final chapter of a case that has dragged on for
several years, Andrade was ordered to pay more than one
million pesos (90,000 US dollars) for emotional damage to
his accuser Karina Yapor.
And if he pays the fine in less than four months, he may
leave prison on conditional freedom, according to Judge
Javier Pineda.
It wasn't clear if Andrade would appeal.
Andrade and Trevi, the provocative ex-pop diva, were
arrested together with one of Trevi's singers in Brazil in
2000 at the request of a Mexican judge.
The three were accused of sexually abusing Yapor, one
of Trevi's ex-singers.
Trevi conceived her son, Angel Gabriel, while in the
Brazilian prison, where conjugal visits were prohibited.
After a DNA test, Brazilian police proved that Andrade is
the baby's father.
Andrade, Trevi and her former singer were extradited to
Mexico last year and Trevi and the singer were found
innocent and released. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
