- Story Text: Lady Gaga, Bono and Usher were among a handful of A-list celebrities performing in honor of former president Bill Clinton's humanitarian foundation, in a concert Saturday (October 15) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Soul singer Stevie Wonder, Country singer Kenny Chesney, Somalian singer K'naan, and Colombian singer Juanes rounded out the list of performers at the charity-aiding concert, reflecting the global outreach of the Clinton Foundation. Also taking to the stage were other socially responsible artists like actors Ellen Degeneres, Ashton Kutcher, Jason Segel, and Maria Bello, all of whom perform extensive humanitarian work.
Clinton and wife, secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, were joined by daughter Chelsea Clinton in the front row of the three hour long concert.
Finally taking the stage after a seemingly endless slew of A-list performers, Lady Gaga performed "You and I" for the former president, something he addressed in brief remarks at the end of the evening.
"I mean, how cool is it to be 65 and get Lady Gaga, come on," says former U.S. president Bill Clinton. "And then, I wondered, you know, she always kind of goes off the edge, she said she was going to have a Marilyn moment, and I thought 'My God, I get Lady Gaga and I will have a heart attack celebrating my 65th birthday'."
The concert, billed as "A Decade of Difference," is aimed at celebrating 10 years of the Clinton Foundation and raising awareness of its work on issues such as AIDS and the environment. The Clinton Foundation claims to have helped improve the lives of 300 million people around the world.
Clinton referenced his own humble beginnings when telling the audience why he has decided to give back extensively during his post-presidential life.
"I've had the most unusual life. I was born after World War II, in the second poorest state in the country, into a family that never had a college graduate, and poof, lightning struck, one time after another, and I never, ever believed I was born in a log cabin I built myself. Nobody climbs any ladder alone, and we are not ever going to build this country back by telling people they're on their own, we have got to do America and the World together," says Clinton.
"A Decade of Difference" was broadcast live exclusively on Yahoo with all proceeds going to the Clinton Foundation. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
