- Story Text: Classic rockers Status Quo teamed up with 1960s legends The Beach Boys on Sunday (January 28) for a super-group duet.
The Beach Boys joined the veteran British group on stage at London's Brixton Academy to perform their hit "Fun, Fun, Fun".
The rocking remake is set to be Quo's first single from their 30th anniversary album "Don't Stop", which features other people's classics given the power-chord Quo treatment.
Status Quo first met the Beach Boys in Berlin in 1994 when they were both performing at a huge farewell party to mark the departure of British, American and French troops from the city.
The concert was attended by over 300,000 people who sung along to both bands, sparking the idea of a joint venture.
Status Quo later recorded the instrumental parts of "Fun, Fun, Fun" and sent them to the United States where the Beach Boys recorded their vocal parts over the top.
Speaking before Sunday's concert Beach Boy Bruce Johnston said it would be Status Quo's big night and The Beach Boys would just provide the backing vocals.
Brian Wilson, the creative genius behind The Beach Boys, joined the bands for Sunday's concert, his first visit to Britain for 20 years.
Wilson cut a haunting figure. His 29 years since the release of "Good Vibrations" have been filled with drug addiction and serious mental illness. Now battling towards recovery with the help of his Californian wife Melinda Ledbetter, he agreed to join the band for the "Fun, Fun, Fun" remake.
Status Quo leader Francis Rossi said it was an honour to work with such a genius and he hoped the performance was good for Wilson.
Quo's 30th anniversary album is due for release in Europe on February 5 and the cover version of "Fun, Fun, Fun" will be released as a single on February 19.
Rossi and the band, including the only other original member, Rick Parfitt, are about to embark on a world tour promoting "Don't Stop".
Speaking before Sunday's concert Rossi said he would much rather stay at home and wished the audience would come to him. He says he has given up the wild life and prefers to spend his time with his wife Eileen and their children. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
