- Story Text: Dance, painting, music, photography and the female form mixed recently at an edgy Lima exhibition of Peruvian photographer Piero Pereira's work.
Pereira, known for his body painting, worked with dancers on his latest project, 'Corpografia II', mashing mediums to come up with striking photos.
At his Lima studio, Pereira covered nude dancers in paint, put on music, and had them move against canvases. The artist said the project started with a search for the intersection between photography and painting in the digital age.
He spoke recently from his studio about the process.
"I work with dancers and performers who have the ability to make forms with their bodies according to the music they listen to. I work with music as well. These girls find themselves with paint all over their bodies and they start to make forms and I capture them with the camera. I also play a lot with holding the camera in my hand and with long exposures. Everything moves and the forms start to blend with the background," he said.
In some photos, the female bodies dominate the attention, but Pereira's blurring effect makes others like more like an abstract painting a la Jackson Pollock.
Kristhel Zoeger, one of Pereira's models, appeared at the exhibition.
"It's like it's a dance that belongs to him and me and the colours," she said.
Yvonne Sanguineti, the head of the gallery that carries her name, was excited about the show.
"I love it and think it's great- very, very good. This photo has three stages. It's stupendous," she said.
The exhibit opened on December 14 and will be at Sanguineti's gallery until January 21.
Pereira started working with body painting in 2005 and came out with his first series of photos in 2008. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
