- Story Text: Two rare violins, made by Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivarius in 1698 and 1714, will come up for sale in Paris next week.
Two of the most valuable Stradivarius violins will be auctioned on Tuesday (February 3) by auctioner Jacques Tajan, assisted by violin maker Etienne Vatelot.
Each of these two violins could fetch up to six million francs when they come up for sale in Paris next week.
According to Etienne Vatelot, Stradivarius made some 450 violins during his lifetime, most of them belonging to famous violin virtuosi.
Stradivarius provided inimitable violins made either in maple, ebony or spruce giving an amazing tone.
The 1714 violin called "Le Marien" was made in the height of his success.
"When I go to a concert, just by hearing the sound, I know that it is a Stradivarius", said Marianne Piketty, a concert performer.
Many musicians and music amateurs should be in Paris when the violins go on sale in February.
