  • Story Text: The leader of a visiting South Korean delegation, Minister Mr. Byung Heui, said he hoped his country could rely on the Chad government's support on the Korean question.

    South Korea had its application for membership of the United Nations rejected in August but the Foreign Ministry has announced it plans to re-apply. Mr. Byung Heui may well have had this in mind when he told the Chad government delegation that South Korea had always left able to rely on Chad in the past.

    North Korea opposed South Korea's entry to the United Nations on the grounds that it would perpetuate the division of the Korean peninsula. The two countries have been apart since the end of the Civil War in 1953.

    Captain Gouara Lassou, acting Foreign Minister in the new Chad government formed since President Tombalbaye was killed in an army coup, led the Chad delegation at the meeting in the capital N'Djamena.

    Mr. Byung Heui also carried a personal message from South Korea's President Park Chung Hee to Chad President Brigadier Felix Malloum.
