- Story Text: With two new songs added to the mix, Enrique Iglesias releases his first English language greatest hits album.
Thirteen years after releasing his debut album and selling more than 40 million of them worldwide, Enrique Iglesias is taking a moment to look back at his impressive career. This month he released his first English language greatest hits album.
The album consists of 17 songs, including "Bailamos" and "Hero", and is a combination of his trademark ballads and dance hits. But there are also two new duets on the album. The first one to be released is "Away" with Sean Garrett. Garrett made a name for himself writing and producing for some of the biggest names in pop music like Usher and Ciara before releasing an album of his own this summer.
"I'm used to writing my own stuff but this time I got to hear one of his (Garrett) songs," said Iglesias. "It was supposed to be on his album and I fell in love with it and I begged him if I could please sing the song. He said 'let's do it as a duet' and I was happy to do it."
The second duet called "Takin' Back My Love" is with multi-platinum R&B singer Ciara.
Iglesias initially conquered the Spanish speaking market with his debut album in 1995. It sold more than a million copies and garnered him a Grammy.
Two years later, he hit the mainstream with his first English language album called "Enrique." Since then he has released three more English language albums along with two more Spanish ones including a greatest hits album. He has also toured the world to sold out venues, acted in movies and television and co-produced an off-Broadway musical. Keeping things fresh is vitally important to the singer.
"I want to go out of my comfort zone and also work with different types of people and styles. For me, that's crucial because when you release an album, you've got to promote it for a year - for two years sometimes - and if I repeat myself, I know I am going to get bored," said Iglesias.
Enrique had big shoes to fill as the son of Julio Iglesias but he has successfully carved out a niche for himself based on his own merit and in many ways has surpassed his father in popularity. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
