Summary:On September 14 1937 Czechoslovakia was mourning the loss of Thomas Masaryk, known as 'the Liberator' of his country. He was president of the new state of Czechoslovakia from its inception in 1918 until 1935, during which time he became internationally revered. He died at the age of 87, a few months before his country was ravaged by Hitler's Germany.
