- Story Text: Jim Carrey's life is a zoo. Literally. In his latest film, "Mr. Popper's Penguins," the actor once again teams up with live animals - this time 6 penguins who made working on set more than a little difficult.
"A lot of people say, 'don't work with children and animals' and I seem to barrel straight into them every time I get out there. They're attracted to me. Something about my scent. Perhaps because I don't wash."
The movie is a contemporary twist on the popular 1938 children's book, about a businessman whose life begins to change after he inherits six penguins and transforms his urban apartment into a winter wonderland.
Carrey has done numerous films with animal co-stars, including "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective" and "Bruce Almighty," but he said working with live penguins posed a challenge he never faced before.
"You couldn't get a line out without them going [makes penguin noise]. They were like critics just trying to mess with your head. I'd go, 'you know, I feel a little [makes penguin noise].' Can we do that again?"
So after working so closely with his little tuxedo-colored co-stars, what did Carrey learn?
"That they're edible. They taste delicious. None of the penguins in this movie went to waste. I just want to tell people out there that. Make sure you know that we were very, very conscientious. They were absolutely delicious," he joked.
