- Story Text: The Abu Dhabi police showcase the latest addition to their fleet of police cars: the F999, the world's fastest Formula 1 racing car. The car will not be used for police missions but to raise public awareness about road safety.
The Abu Dhabi corniche was virtually transformed into the set of a Hollywood-style cops and robbers movie, as the city's police force unveiled the latest addition to its fleet ahead of the Yas Island Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The F999, the world's fastest Formula One car, commissioned by the Abu Dhabi police, zipped through the capital's streets at top speed under the gaze of hundreds of motorsport fans.
''The F999 will have its first viewing in the world for the general. This car was specifically designed for the Abu Dhabi Police with state of the art specifications, and thus, this car is regarded as being one of the fastest Formula One cars in the world, and is the fastest police car in the world. This car has also been fitted with the highest safety specifications,'' said Abu Dhabi Police F999 driver Lieutenant Majid Abdul Kareem al- Marzouqi.
Designed in Ireland, Germany and the United States according to Abu Dhabi police specifications, the car will not be engaged in rescue operations, or police enforcement per say. Its main objective is to disseminate public safety messages throughout the Abu Dhabi community.
The car will be showcased at major events held by the city bearing safety announcements.
Abu Dhabi residents with pristine traffic law records will be eligible for a draw, the winner of which will be able to test drive the F999.
