- Story Text: With the 2014 award season in full swing having the perfect dress is almost as important of taking home a trophy.
Veterans Reese Whiterspoon and Sofia Verga stayed true to their red carpet style at the 71st Golden Globes on Sunday (January 12). While newcomer, actress Lupita Nyong'o, is sure to join other carpet history makers with her bold red Ralph Lauren gown.
Others on that list includes Jennifer Lopez's green Versace dress, Cher's midriff baring Oscar look and Toni Braxton's daring cut out dress.
Kim Kardashian turned heads for all the wrong reason at the 2013 Met Ball, while Angelina Jolie's right leg earned its own twitter account after the 2012 Oscars.
Oscar winner Julia Roberts said selecting the right dress is as much about ease as it is style.
"Just whatever I'm comfortable in. You know, makes me feel like you're celebrating something great," said Roberts.
For Jennifer Hudson slipping on a winning look is a collaboration.
"My stylist comes in with several options. And then some way I know, it's like, that's the one. Let's go for this one, you know? It depends on the occasion and then it depends on the mood as well," Hudson told Reuters.
Miley Cyrus officially abandoned her "Hannah Montana" image in 2013 with a mix of classic and bold fashions. Beyonce's long time stylist Ty Hunter said wearing a daring frock carries a message.
"You have to be confident to pull off a dress that's plunged all the way to the end. You have to be able to go out there and say I'm hot," he said.
Hunter has worked with Beyonce since the beginning of her career and helps maintains the singer's picture perfect image.
"It seems like I'm the only stylist that follows my artist all the way through. Because you have this long train and you just let her walk out and the train gets bunched up everything. So they joke about me on the ground pulling the train out, but I just want to make sure she has good pictures and I think it's important," he revealed.
But no matter how glamorous the gown Hunter said the wrong under garments can ruin a moment.
"There are plunge bras, there's strapless bras, there's Spanx. It's a lot that goes on under. So the first thing you have to focus on is your under garments, it's very important. And then there's double stick tape. It's a lot, it's a lot. You're at war, it's a lot of armor that goes into preparing for the red carpet," said Hunter.
However, in the end fashion commentator Kelly Osbourne said it's all about having fun.
"You have to have a fun attitude about what you're doing. Know where you're going. And realize at the end of the day you're not trying to be the prettiest person in the room you just want to have the most fun. And that's the attitude that I have," said Osbourne, who co-host "Fashion Police" on U.S. cable network E!
