- Story Text: Fans of Britney Spears descend upon San Diego to attend the first concert of her latest world concert tour.
Britney Spears kicked off her World Tour with a concert in San Diego on Tuesday night (March 2, 2004).
Outside the Sports Arena, Britney fans of all ages arrived in droves, some were so eager to see the star in action they could barely contain their excitement.
It's not just the teeny boppers that come to Britney either, one dad was more than happy to admit that he's a fan of her music and her spirit.
Leonard Simpson told Reuters, "I came to see Britney Spears, she's fantastic and she (his daughter Britney) loves the music and it's just a great opportunity to see her new style and her new costumes and I know she's been going through some hard times, which we all go through from time to time, but I'm just really proud of her music and her discipline in the industry."
One fan said the reason she came is because she can relate to the singer.
Kelly Eversole told Reuters "She (Britney) is fun, she's our age and she's a good performer and she's coming out, it should be fun."
According to Britney Gale, her namesake "Has just been an inspiration to me because I'm a dancer and I've been taking lessons before and I want to turn out like her hopefully some day."
But one thing the fans won't be influenced by is Britney's whirlwind wedding.
Britney Simpson says they may share the same first name but, when it comes to getting married she has already decided that she "Probably won't do it like she (Britney) did in (Las) Vegas I'll probably do it more the traditional way unlike her."
When the recently divorced singer arrived on stage on top of a miniature tour bus wearing a black satin catsuit teamed with a rhinestone belt, the crowd went absolutely crazy.
Their hero wasted no time getting started but it was almost impossible to hear Britney above the screaming fans.
The singer took time out during the set to tell her followers that she really appreciated their support before getting back to the business in hand.
Britney's dance moves are almost as famous as her singing and the crowd swayed along with the star and her dancers when she treated them to some choreographed pieces that went along with the songs.
R&B singer Kelis (pron: Kull-ees) is supporting Britney on the World Tour which she's no doubt hoping will boost her popularity in the United States.
The young songstress is riding a wave of success in the states from her infectious hit single "Milkshake."
Kelis' third album "Tasty" showcases her talent as a songwriter. She co-wrote five of the tracks on her latest offering.
Britney's World Tour will continue in the United States until mid April, then she'll head for the United Kingdom and Europe. The tourwith an appearance at the "Rock in Rio" festival in Lisbon, Portugal on June 5, 2004. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
