- Title: SPAIN: SPANISH SINGER MIGUEL BOSE UNVEILS HIS NEW ALBUM
- Date: 11th March 1998
- Summary: MADRID, SPAIN (MARCH 16, 1998) (REUTERS) BOSE SAYING, "I THINK THE SPANISH AND LATIN CULTURE, NOT THAT IT IS ESPECIALLY IN FASHION RIGHT NOW, BUT FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER, ESPECIALLY IN THE UNITED STATES, IT HAS HAD A LOT OF SUPPORT BECAUSE MANY MILLIONS OF LATIN AMERICANS LIVE THERE, AND EVIDENTLY THEY HAVE BEEN TEACHING THEIR MUSIC AND CULTURE THERE FOR MANY YEARS. LATIN AMERICANS ARE NOW A PART OF WHAT WE COULD SAY IS THE GREAT INTEGRATION OF PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THEM AND ENJOY OUR RICH, EXOTIC AND ATTRACTIVE CULTURE WHICH IS WHY THEY SAY WE ARE IN FASHION RIGHT NOW. HONESTLY, I THINK THAT THE LATINS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COOL, IN FASHION OR NOT WE WILL ALWAYS CONTINUE TO BE." (SPANISH)

- Story Text: For many musicians, adding a new spin to old favourites is a labour of love. Not least for Spanish-Italian singer Miguel Bose, who has recorded his eleven favourite tracks - latin-style.
Bose is following in the footsteps of the likes of k.d.
lang and Annie Lennox in producing an album comprising solely of cover versions.
The new album marks a departure from his traditional U.S.and European influences - the songs on it are mainly versions of well-known Latin American hits.
The singer has a huge following in Latin America, where he has toured for years.
"Eleven Ways To Wear a Hat" has been long time in the making.Bose's previous album "Laberinto" was released in December of 1996.Other records include "Salamandra", "Los Chicos No Lloran" and "Bajo el Signo de Cain".
For his new album, Bose has selected many of his childhood favourites.
"Why these songs? Because they have grown with me in one way or another. They have never abandoned me and I have never grown tired of them," he said."They are beautiful, fun, and they never go out of style." The title of the album is a fitting tribute, says Bose - eleven ways to make a tribute to eleven artists, as he describes it."A hat is like a song, it can look or sound different depending on how you put it on," he said.
The first single to be released, "Muro" is a Cuban ballad originally sung by Carlos Varela.
Bose reached the height of his stardom in the late 1980s, when his smouldering good looks won him the attention of adoring young fans.
His Italian mother is the actress and former Miss Italy, Lucia Bose, who appeared in many Visconti films. His father, famous bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguin, was the inspiration behind some of American writer Ernest Hemingway's novels.Dominguin had a string of affairs with hollywood stars such as Lana Turner and Lauren Bacall.
The singer-actor has appeared alongside Isabel Adjani in "La Reine Margot" and in Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's "High Heels" as well as many other Spanish films.
"Eleven Ways to Wear a Hat" was released on March 16.
Although Bose has no imminent plans to tour, he admits his band may be able to persuade him to take to the road. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
