- Story Text: Nicole Kidman was the toast of her home town at the Australian premiere of her new movie Moulin Rouge. The premiere of the Baz Lurhmann directed musical marks the first appearance in her home town of the actress, since the announcement of her split from husband Tom Cruise.
The Screening of the $95 million musical at Sydney's Fox studios was accompanied by much fanfare courtesy of probably the biggest ever launch party for a local film.
The lavish invitation only party, held on the stage where the film was made, followed the screening, featuring can-can dancing girls, dazzling jewelry and some of the films actually sets.
Three thousand guests, including 400 competition winners watched the film simultaneously in 11 cinemas before being escorted to the party. Organizers seem to have prepared for a long night with reports that they have stocked up with 250 dozen bottles of champagne. Car hire firms reported that every limo in Sydney was booked for the evening, with some guests resorting to a London Double Decker bus.
Since her return home Kidman's home in Sydney's Darling Point has been on constant watch by a large group of paparazzi. Although when asked what it was like to be home Kidman replied "It's great, really fun, relaxing actually."
Although she arrived in Sydney without her children, Kidman stated that she would like to bring her children, Conor and Isabella back to Sydney to live. When asked how she was feeling in relation to the split she said she was "getting by", and "finding strength she never knew she had."
