  • Story Text: Television personality Paula Yates has been found dead in her London flat. The circumstances of her death are still unclear.
    The troubled and public life of Paula Yates ended abruptly on Sunday (September 17), in her Notting Hill flat.
    Her former husband and father of her first three children, Bob Geldof, issued a statement on Sunday saying that the loss of Paula was "insupportable" for the children.
    The body of 40-year-old Yates was found in the bedroom of a house in St Luke's Mews, Notting Hill, west London, by an ambulance crew.
    Her solicitor Anthony Burton has confirmed the death.
    An ambulance spokesman said police were treating the death as suspicious, but the cause would not be known until a post mortem was held.
    Yates found fame in the 1980s on the Channel 4 music programme "The Tube" and later starred on the the early morning British television show, "The Big Breakfast".
    It was on the Tube that she met her lover, Australian INXS star Michael Hutchence.
    Hutchence was found hanged in a hotel room in Sydney in 1997, six months after the birth of their child, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.
    Paula Yates met Bob Geldof in 1977 and married him nine years later. She had three children with him, Fifi Trixibelle, 17, Peaches, 10, and Pixie, 7.
    Yates suffered severe bouts of depression in the past and there have been reports of previous attempts of suicide. The police said they were treating her death as suspicious.
    Speaking from her Sydney home, Mrs Hutchence said she and her husband were informed of Yates' death shortly before 11pm (AEDT).
    But she said her husband was too distressed to speak to the media.
    Mrs Hutchence said she had no idea about what would happen with the custody of Hutchence's daughter, Tiger Lily, now aged four.
