- Story Text: The former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has married Heather Mills in a sumptuous affair that included fireworks, feasting, friends and celebrities. Meanwhile an unidentified man was arrested after attempting to drive through the gates of Castle Leslie with a guitar in the hope of singing a song for the newly weds.
More than 300 friends and family arrived at Belfast and Dublin airports on Tuesday (June 11) before being taken by car and bus to the 1,000-acre hideaway in the tiny village of Glaslough.
A select handful of celebrities, including Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton, were joining the celebrations, which were to include a lavish party inside the grounds.
Sir Paul and Heather were planning to beat the rain by walking from the castle through a specially-constructed covered tunnel to the altar where they were exchanging nuptials in a Church of Ireland ceremony conducted by a local priest.
Sir Paul McCartney's brother Mike is to be the best man.
The couple posed briefly outside the castle gates on Monday and vowed that the bad weather would not spoil their big day.
Both told of their nerves and excitement as they prepared to wed.
Sir Paul, 59, wearing a blue sweater and grey trousers passed a rose to Heather Mills and kissed her twice as more than 200 fans cheered.
Heather Mills, 34, wearing a cream jumper and blue denim jeans, revealed that she had made the dress with the help of two London designers, notably leaving out her soon-to-be daughter-in-law Stella McCartney.
Despite the onslaught of reporters and camera crews queuing outside the gates of Castle Leslie, and the media helicopters flying overhead in the desperate effort to grab a snapshot, the wedding is being kept firmly behind the castle walls.
Earlier Geoff Baker, McCartney's spokesman revealed that the couple had rejected a cash offer from Hello! magazine.
He said: "They were offered £1.5 million by a British publication for the photos and they turned that down.
"Instead there will be a single photo for which publications will pay and the money will go to charity.
"An occasion like this is for everybody - not just for the person with the largest cheque book."
