  • Story Text: Mexico's Erica Andrews won the Miss International Queen 2006 title on Saturday (October 28) in Thailand's resort town of Pattaya, where the world's biggest transsexual beauty pageant was held.
    Transvestites and transgender males from all around the world participated in the third running of the annual contest.
    Beating runner-up Patricia Montrecario from the Philippines, the 38-year-old actress, entertainer and stylist working in the United States took home the crown as well as a 10,000 U.S. dollar cash prize.
    "It's just amazing, and it gives me a chance to show the people back home about this wonderful place the you guys have here, it is just amazing and it is unbelievable, and when I am winning and travelling around the world I will be able to promote this everywhere that I go as a great positive experience and hopefully I will get people from even more countries to come and join us," said Andrews after being crowned Miss International Queen 2006.
    The pageant saw most finalists from the Philippines with eight of the country's contestants competing against 15 finalists from Australia, United States, Egypt, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia.
    Erica's pride of being Mexican was apparent during the round of national costume, when she walked on the stage with a white embroidered 'terno', or traditional dress.
    Thailand is well known of its tolerance to what it labels as the 'third gender' and as a nation obsessed with beauty pageants, including transsexual pageants broadcast live on the country's television.
