- Story Text: The spokesman for Libya's military council said on Thursday (October 20) that the world will not blame troops for killing former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Speaking to Reuters in Benghazi, Ahmed Bani said the world would not remember how he was killed, only that he was killed.
"He has been arrested while he was hiding in a shelter, he tried to resist our forces but they dealt with him, he has been killed like anybody threats the humanity and I think the world will not disdain his death, but the most important is that he has been killed," he said.
Bani emphasised that Gaddafi was killed as he tried to avoid capture by National Transitional Council forces.
"They met him, our revolutionaries met him, he tried to resist them, so they killed him and I'm sure the world will never blame us and no one will blame on our troops. The most important thing is that Gaddafi is killed. How he was killed; is not important," he said.
Reports have said that Libya's interim ruling council are expected to declare the country officially liberated later on Thursday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
