- Story Text: Fatah's security forces clash with Palestinian students at a West Bank university in Hebron. Several students are arrested and a Reuters cameramanup in hospital after being beaten up by police.
Dozens of Palestinian students staged a demonstration at a West Bank university on Sunday (September 9) to protest against tuition fee increases and a lack of government grants.
Clashes erupted when Palestinian policemen of the Fatah's Preventive Security Force arrived at the site and attempted to disperse the crowd, comprised mostly Hamas and Islamic movements supporters, witnesses reported.
Witnesses said several protesters were wounded and some arrested by the Palestinian police force.
During the clashes Reuters video cameraman Yousri al-Jamal was beaten by Palestinian policemen who told him to stop shooting, journalists said.
Al-Jamal was lightly wounded and evacuated to a nearby hospital.
Agence France Presse still photographer Hazem Badr was also injured covering the incident and was treated at the same hospital.
Fatah lost control of the Gaza Strip to Hamas in fighting three months ago. The Hamas administration in the territory described the strike as "pointless and an attempt to restore chaos". - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
