- Story Text: Students in Banja Luka take to the street to protest against Kosovo's declaration of independence.
The citizens of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina reacted on Monday (February 18) with anger and dismay to Kosovo's declaration of independence a day earlier.
Newspaper headlines referred to the secession - one reading 'fake state of Kosovo', another saying it had had been 'stolen from Serbia'.
Banja Luka resident, Rade Sinik, described his feelings, "I am bitter, it is the same as someone forced me out of my own house. It will have huge impact on the Serb Republic and much wider."
Another, Milica Jokic told Reuters, "No word is adequate for this but when you have the power everything is possible."
Borkic Slobodan said the secession will have a knock on effect, "In regard of Kosovo's independence NATO has laid foundations, European Union continued with the work which ended by Kosovo's independence declaration. It will have disastrous repercussions on the Serb Republic and for other countries which have problems with separatist movements."
Marchers led by students and professors gathered in the central square of Banja Luka to express their solidarity with their fellow students in Serbia in their condemnation of Kosovo's declaration of independence.
