The meetings were held ahead of a two-day summit on May 20 aimed at strengthening regional cooperation.
Xi shook hands with Ban before sitting down for talks, a day before the Fourth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. Ban is also scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Keqiang later on Monday.
After the meeting with Ban, Xi also held talks with Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj in the presence of delegates from both sides.
