- Story Text: Two people were missing on Sunday (July 14) after a boat capsized, carrying 23 passengers, off the Indonesian coast.
Six Japanese nationals were aboard the boat when the accident occured in the Sunda strait on Saturday (July 13). The boat left Anyer beach at 11.00 am (0400 GMT) on Saturday with a planned return for later that afternoon.
Passengers, most of whom were divers, were rescused by a fishing boat and tanker before they were taken to Anyer harbour in Banten province, on Sunday morning.
The rescue coordinator confirmed research efforts continued to find the remaining missing people.
"There were 23 people in the boat, six of them are Japanese. We have found 21, the rescue efforts continues to find the other two," Suyatno said.
One Indonesian diver, Aldi described what happened.
"At six in the afternoon, we finished diving, we were back to the boat at seven, have our dinner. Suddenly big waves came, hit the boat and took the boat away from shore to the ocean. Yes, it capsized near Sangiang island," he said.
