- Story Text: One of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year kicked off on Friday (July 6) afternoon, as basketball star Tony Parker married Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria in a civil ceremony at a town hall in Paris.
With the first photographers and fans arriving at the city hall as early as 9 a.m. (0700GMT), by the time three white limousines pulled into the square at around 14.45 p.m. (1245GMT) a huge, excited crowd had assembled, held back by solid barriers and surveyed by police and security guards.
Longoria's family and witnesses arrived first bearing Chanel bags and dress cases, then the diminutive star herself stepped out of a limousine in a short rose-pink dress, pausing only briefly to wave to her screaming fans.
Her husband-to-be climbed out of a Mercedes van shortly afterwards to shouts of 'To-neeee', entering the town hall accompanied by footballer Thierry Henri and Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoe, who would perform the ceremony.
The heavy doors were closed, and fans and press waited another hour and a quarter for another glimpse of the Hollywood couple, but despite the cheers that greeted 1998 World Cup hero Henri on his exit, the crowd was disappointed when Parker and Longoria eventually emerged, already hidden in dark-windowed black cars.
The religious ceremony will take place on Saturday (July 7) in the church of St Germain l'Auxerrois, where Parker's Spurs team-mates and Longoria's Desperate Housewives co-stars will be just some of the celebrities among the 250 guests.
A lavish reception in the Chateau of Vaux le Vicomte just outside Paris will top off the pair's fairytale Parisian wedding. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
