- Story Text: Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was presented with China's "Golden Record Award" on Monday (January 8).
He is the first foreigner to be honoured with the award by the China Record Coporation which claims that Iglesias is the biggest-selling foreign artist in China.
"It is a pleasure to receive from the Chinese people such an award and I came here just to give a kiss to everybody," Inglesias said at the awards' ceremony.
"I will be very proud to tell my friends and my artist friends around the world to come to China," he said after being presented with the gold disc.
Following the award ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, Iglesias perfomed for a rapt audience at the Beijing Exhibition Theatre.
Iglesias, one of the world's most popular singers, is under contract to Sony Music and has sold over 160 million albums and been awarded more than 960 Gold and 350 Platinum records worldwide. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
