- Story Text: Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery appeared in an appeal hearing at the Court of Arbitration (CAS) for Sports on Monday (May 17), in a last bid to annul a three-match ban by UEFA barring him from playing in the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday (22 May).
The French midfielder was given a three-match ban after being red-carded over a tackle on Olympique Lyon's Lisandro Lopez during the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Bayern Munich had hoped UEFA's Disciplinary Committee would cut the ban to one game, allowing Ribery to play in the final but the three-match suspension was confirmed.
The CAS is the last resort for Ribery and Bayern Munich to argue the tackle was accidental and that the sanction was too heavy.
If Cas rejects Bayern's appeal, Ribery's ban will also cover the first European match of next season. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
