- Story Text: Algeria's hopes of beginning with a win were dashed on Tuesday (June 17) as Belgium came from behind to beat them 2-1.
Thousands of fans in Algiers' La Grande Post place cheered when Sofiane Feghouli scored from a penalty in the 25th minute to put Algeria in the lead.
But Belgium came back in the second half, first with an equaliser from Fellaini in the 70th minute, and then Mertens seized the winner in the 80th.
"I am really disappointed, really disappointed," said one of the Algerian fans, Karim.
"A good match but we played defence when we should have played with more attack, God willing we will win the next match," said Mohamed.
Algeria's two other group games are against Russia and South Korea, who play each other later on Tuesday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
