- Story Text: Ben Stiller and his wife Christine Taylor were among those who arrived for Thursday (September 27) for the Hollywood premiere of "The Heartbreak Kid." The film is actually a remake of Neil Simon's 1972 classic of the same name, starring Charles Grodin and Cybill Shepherd.
"I don't think you could top the original," explained Stiller. "But, what I like about this film is the script, in that the Farrelly brothers were taking this in a totally different direction, because I don't think you could do what they did any better. So, it was exciting to see them do something different. The premise is just a great premise. It was fun to take it in a new direction."
The romantic, yet raunchy comedy stars Stiller as the single and indecisive Eddie, who begins dating the incredibly sexy and seemingly ideal Lila (Malin Akerman). Fearful that it may be his last chance at love and happiness, with the encouragement of his father, played by his real father Jerry Stiller and his best friend (Rob Corddry), Eddie proposes to Lila after only a few weeks. However, while on their honeymoon in sunny Mexico, Lila reveals her true beyond-awful nature and Eddie meets Miranda (Michelle Monaghan), the woman he believes is his actual soul mate. Now Eddie must keep his new, increasingly horrid wife at bay as he attempts to woo the woman of his dreams.
The film, co-directed by brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly, previously worked with Stiller in the hit comedy, "There's Something About Mary".
"First, you shoot what you wrote," said Bobby. "You shoot what you wrote, you do a take and you say 'do it this way' and then when you get that, then you say let's try some new stuff, that's when you get the Brett Faveress. That was something that they were just winging, which just kills us.
But, we say we must do the script first." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
