- Story Text: NHL "World Stars" Team starts European tour.
The NHL Worldstars team began their charity world
tour with a game against Latvian ice hockey champions Riga
2000 in the Latvian capital Riga on Thursday (December 9).
In Latvia, the game was dedicated to the memory of late
Latvian NHL player Sergei Zholtok who recently died.
The score was opened in the first period by Anson
Carter's shot from the blue line. In the middle of the
second period Undelis netted the first goal for Latvia.
Robitaille, Fedorov and Whitnev scored the other goals
for the Worldstars while Undelis and Cipullis tallied the
second goal for the Latvians. An assist was collected by
another NHL lookouter, Kariis Skrastins, now playing for
his native Latvia.
The game ended with a 4-2 win for the Worldstars.
The Worldstars will also play two games against the
Russian All Star Team in Moscow and St. Petersburg. After
that, they will take on the Slovakian national team in
Bratislava, a Swiss team, three Swedish clubs and the
Norwegian and Polish national teams.
The NHL team includes goalkeepers Martin Broeder and
Dominik Hasek, defense men Robert Blake, John-Michael Liles, Robyn
Regehr, Rhett Warrener, Sean O'Donnell, Pavel
Kubina and Barret Jackman, and forwards Anson Carter,
Alexandre Daigle, Tie Domi, Sergei Fedorov, Glen Murray,
Luc Robitaille, Mats Sundin, Ray Whitney, Kris Draper and
Anthony Amonte.
