- Story Text: Spanish musician and actor Miguel Bose was granted Colombian citizenship by President Alvaro Uribe Wednesday (March 17) in an emotional ceremony at the presidential palace in Bogota.
"The president has welcomed me. He has told me that he is happy, that I am Colombian by way of adoption. He of course warned me about what comes with this. I have made an oath making me a citizen and it has been a very emotional meeting," Bose said.
The singer, who is very well known in Spain and throughout Latin America, called for Colombia's FARC rebel group to lay down there weapons and release hostages in promotion of peace in Colombia and abroad.
"The issue of finding peace is an issue that we are working on. I am not only working on it for this country, but for the entire world through Peace without Borders with my friend Juanes so that the right to peace can be a universal right; a primary and natural right for all and be reflected in the Magna Carta and declarations of human rights," Bose added.
Juanes is a Colombian musician who has promoted Peace without Border benefit concerts which endorse regional and world peace.
Uribe presented Bose with his citizenship on behalf of the Colombian people as supporters looked on.
"With very open hearts we present this letter of citizenship from the country you are receiving. Thank you very much maestro. Thank you for your life, for your love of Colombia and for the decision to become a citizen."
Bose should receive other official documents including a Colombian passport within a week.
