- Story Text: Military trucks began preparing to leave Pale on Sunday (February 25) to collect the remaining Serb residents from the Sarajevo suburb of Vogosca.
The chaotic situation in and around Sarajevo prompted NATO's (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) commander in Bosnia Admiral Leighton Smith on Saturday to allow Bosnian Serb army vehicles back into the Sarajevo suburbs to help with the evacuation.
The United Nations has accused the Bosnian government and Serb leadership of undermining efforts to preserve a multi-ethnic Bosnia as the Serb exodus from Sarajevo suburbs continues unabated.
In Ilidza, another Serb suburb due to be transferred to the Moslem-Croat Federation's control, a meeting was held in the local high school.
Led by Maksim Stanisic, mayor of "Serb Sarajevo", residents formed the Democratic Initiative of Sarajevo Serbs and demanded guarantees of freedom of movement and security.
The meeting was attended by High Representatative Carl Bildt's principal deputy Michael Steiner, International police Task Force Commissioner Peter Fitzgerald, American and French ambassadors and European Union monitors.
Stanisic told the meeting he wanted to secure protection for those Serbs staying in Sarajevo and those who may return.
