- Story Text: Hong Kong's fashion week continued with the creations
of designers Pacino Wan and Walter Ma.
Pacino Wan offered a whimsical and youthful collection
of daywear which he says is designed for "normal", active
people on the go, not only for those with model-slim
physiques.
Wan chose models of all shapes and sizes to show
off his Fall/Winter 2000 collection of mostly earth tone
dresses, coats and pants.
Audience members were given flashing light
necklaces, and there was a carnival-like atmosphere in the
packed house.
Wan even came on the stage himself and waltzed with one
of his models.
"I think that the goal for the fashion show now is
to be really close to the real life, so for the really tall,
the very perfect model, I think it's so far away from the
audience, or from a normal person, " Wan said.
"I think my design is not only for the perfect,
it's for everybody, so I use different height people,
different size, and I think they all look good on the stage, "
he added.
Walter Ma took a different approach for his Spring
collection called 'Goldlush', opting to emphasize elegance and
colour.
His innovative mix of fabrics from denim and
cotton to satin and leather is also a key feature.
Ma says people still want to be sexy.
"Most women, they like to show off their bodies,
if they have a very good figure, and naturally we are
targeting for girls who are looking for good things," Ma said.
Hong Kong's Fashion Week will continue through
Friday (July 14).
