- Story Text: Heatwave in Romania kills 18.
At least 18 people have died of sunstroke and dehydration in a
heatwave that has hit Romania in the past two days, hospital
officials said on Saturday (July 30).
Bucharest residents sought relief in the capital's rivers and lakes as
temperatures soared to 36 degrees Celsius, sending hundreds to
hospitals with heat-related complaints.
Emergency services said that there were 1,300 ambulance requests
in the past 30 hours, with people suffering from sunstroke, dehydration
and high blood pressure. Around 150 fainted because of the heat.
Doctors advised people to drink liquids, dress lightly and stay indoors
to avoid the sun during the heatwave.
Meteorologists said the heatwave would last until Sunday (July 31),
with rains expected on Monday.
