- Story Text: U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama on Saturday (June 25) made a quick stop at a local restaurant in Muchudi village, about 30 kilometres outside Gaborone.
Obama arrived in Botswana early on Friday (June 24) after spending the several days in South Africa promoting health, education and youth leadership.
Obama went in the Borakanelo Resaturant with her daughters to buy French fries and fat cakes.
The restaurant staff were excited to see the First Lady who stopped to talk to them.
Villagers gathered outside the restaurant to get a glimpse of her.
"Just passing by Muchudu is something very nice... it will even go into our history books," said Mochudi resident Sizwe Moeketsi.
"I am very happy that Mrs Obama had an opportunity to come and visit us here in our village," said another Mochudi resident Winnie Mamabiletsa.
Obama is on her second official solo trip abroad, along with her daughters Malia and Sasha, their cousins and her mother.
The White House hopes Michelle Obama's trip to South Africa and Botswana will highlight strong democracies on the continent and serve as an example to other nations.
The First Lady was on her way to the Mokolodi Nature Reserve home to giraffes, elephants, zebras, baboons and hippos, among other animals.
She will head back to Washington on Sunday (June 26). - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
