Manchester City has taken to the sunny California weather to gear up for a friendly match against the LA Galaxy. At a press conference, Manchester City's manager Roberto Mancini fielded more questions about his star player Carlos Tevez and David Beckham's comments than about the upcoming match.
Much gossip has been swirling about the collapse of trade Tevez to Brazilian squad Corinthians. Mancini said he is not concerned.
"At the moment, Carlos is still a City player," Mancini said. "In the future, we will see what can happen. For us, Carlos is an important player."
Mancini said he has yet to speak with Tevez but respects the captain's wish to play closer to his family. The Manchester City manager said the uncertainty isn't affecting the way he is preparing for the season. "Carlos wants to leave for his family," Mancini said. " Only for this I think that the club accept to sell Carlos because I think that we respect his reason."
David Beckham also stirred up some old rivalries, making comments that Manchester City will never reach the powerhouse status that Manchester United has achieved. In response, Roberto Mancini pointed out his side won last season's FA Cup, the first piece of silverware, he hopes, of many.
"Well, we started to win last year, and we want to continue to win in future," he said. "Of course, it's going to be difficult for us to arrive at the point where United are. They have won everything in the last 20 years. But we want to try - and in the future we can improve and talk about this."
