- Story Text: Indonesian police identified three more AirAsia crash victims on Sunday (January 4), whose remains were due to be handed over to their grieving families on the same day.
"From the result of the reconciliation meeting we can identify three bodies," said Arthur Tampi, police head of medical and health unit.
Officials have said at least 34 bodies have now been recovered, but identification has become harder with the bodies conditions, after they were in the water for a week.
Police held a symbolic handover procession after the news conference to give the result of the identification process to the family members.
Meanwhile, a church in Surabaya held a mass prayer to pay tribute to the 41 victims on the Airbus 320-300 who were from that church.
"I hope in future we do not just see the flight as a form of commercial or industrial but also respect every human who sits in it, because it is much more valuable than the price of a ticket," Caleb Natan Ielliem from the church's management said.
Another churchgoer said there is very little they could do to support the families.
"We cannot do much here; we can only sit down with the families to cry and pray with them," Franky Limanto said.
Officials said another large underwater object believed to be part of the plane was found on Sunday, but persistent bad weather hampered efforts to locate its black box recorders.
Divers were sent to investigate the debris early on Sunday, but diving had since been suspended due to bad weather, the head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, said.
The Indonesian-led search for the wreck of Flight QZ8501 is centred in the northern Java Sea, close to the Karimata Strait, where search teams have recovered bodies and pieces of the plane. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
