- Story Text: Seven vehicles packed with Iraqi currency stolen
from the Pakistan Central Bank have been seized by Iraqi
police in the southern city of Basra, police said.
Iraqi police said the shipment of 250 million Iraqi
dinars, taken from the Pakistan Central Bank, was found in
seven cars aboard a ship docked at the southern port of Abu
Flous in Basra city.
General Muhammed Ahmed al-Ali, Head of the city's Police,
said the operation was meant to harm the economy of
the country.
"It is an act to destroy the economy when you sent
money to finance people working inside the country and harm
the economy. These are organised operations," Ali said.
"The ship, which was carrying the seven vehicles has
been seized. One of these vehicles was packed with huge
amounts of money, confiscated from Pakistan Central Bank,"
Ali added.
Basra, Iraq's second largest city is controlled by the
British military force.
