- Story Text: Hundreds of people line up to purchase a special edition of The Washington Post commemorating Barack Obama's historic win as he became the first black American to win the presidency.
Hundreds of people lined up to buy a special edition of The Washington Post on Wednesday (November 5), a day after Barack Obama made history by becoming the first black U.S. president-elect.
Outside The Washington Post's downtown office in the U.S. capital, people stood in lines that extended for several blocks and some reported that they waited for up to two hours to get a hold of the newspapers' special edition commemorating Obama's historic win.
"It was definitely worth the wait. It was a special moment and I really want to remember this," one man said.
Others towards the back of the line didn't seem to mind the wait even as it began to rain.
Another man said he would wait "as long as it takes."
Many said they wanted to be able to keep the paper to share with their families.
"I have a two-year-old daughter and I want to show her what happened today," one man said.
Because of the high demand, buyers were limited to five papers each. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
