- Story Text: Film stars Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer find out what it's like to work in the mass media when they play television news reporters in the new romance "Up Close and Personal".
Redford plays Warren Justice, a brilliant, respected television journalist who becomes mentor and lover to up-and-coming reporter Tally Atwater, played by Pfeiffer.
The film details their relationship over the years as Atwater moves up from being a small-town weathergirl, through her time as a cub reporter in Miami, and finally to stardom at a big-market station in Philadelphia and a nationwide network.
The film opens in the United States on March 1.
Other cast members include Stockard Channing, who plays rival Philadelphia anchor Marcia McGrath, Joe Mantegna who plays talent agent Bucky Terranova, and Kate Nelligan as Joanna Kennelly, Warren Justice's ex-wife and a respected journalist in her own right.
The film is directed by Jon Avnet, whose previous work includes the films "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Less Than Zero," and "The War".
Avnet says he researched for more than one year in preparation for this film, visiting all major American television networks and several local stations throughout the country. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
