- Story Text: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Monday (May 11) in the Israeli leader's first visit to an Arab country since taking office earlier this year.
Netanyahu has riled Arab leaders and Western states trying to re-start Israeli Palestinian peace talks by failing to express support for the right of the Palestinians to a state of their own.
Egypt has been a key player in efforts to end Palestinian infighting in the Gaza strip as well as pushing for renewed peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with American President Barack Obama for the first time in Washington on May 18. Some observers say that the two leaders could clash over Obama's stated determination to push peace talks forward.
The Israeli leader has made a point of saying that Israel is not bound by the US sponsored Annapolis talks in 2007 which reaffirmed the goal of a two state solution. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
