- Story Text: Henry Cejudo gave the United States its first wrestling gold medal of the Olympic Games on Tuesday (August 19) with a clinical victory over Japan's Tomohiro Matsunaga in the men's 55kg freestyle.
Besik Kudukhov of Russia and Bulgaria's Radoslav Velikov, both former world title holders, won bronze medals.
Cejudo, a 21-year-old from Colorado Springs taking part in his first Olympics, had tears in his eyes as he wrapped himself in the Stars and Stripes, following a winning campaign he attributes to his "American way" of non-stop wrestling.
He told journalists at a news conference later that he was always aiming for the gold medal and nothing else.
"Gold, I believe that's all there is to it. I have never dreamt for second place or third place. We were brought up like that, you know, it was always gold," he said.
Cejudo, with an eye coming up black, added he felt great pride in winning the first wrestling gold medal for the U.S.
"Seeing the flag go up for the U.S., that hasn't really sunk it, because I have always pictured myself on the podium, especially our flag going up," he added. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
