- Story Text: Staind calls their latest record, "The Illusion of Progress", their most musical one yet.
American rock band Staind talked about their latest album on Friday (September 19), ahead of their performance in London's O2 arena. The band were supporting Canadian group Nickelback who were wrapping up their European tour.
"The Illusion of Progress" is Staind's sixth record, and debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200. This album is their "most musical" one yet, with more positive overtones uncharacteristic of the band's trademark mood of gloom.
Guitarist Mike Mushok, who has his first solo on the album, told Reuters Television how proud he was of the latest record.
"I'm real proud of the way it came out, I think there's definitely some different things on there for us as a band. There's a choir on a song, some organ, slide guitar, just different textures, different layers and I just think that, song-wise that it's you know, hands-down I think, the best thing we've done," he said.
"I think, the inspiration is just allowing more of our, you know, more of our influences, come through. And just allowing more flavours to be there, not having to play with just heavy distorted guitars or just clean guitars you know. There's just all sorts of layers and flavours," lead singer Aaron Lewis added.
The four-man band have been together for about 14 years with Aaron Lewis on vocals, Mike Mushok on guitar, Jon Wysocki on drums / percussion and Johnny April on bass. Mushok compared their 'union' to a marriage, saying that it is indeed hard work.
"And yeah I mean definitely, it's, it's hard, you know. Marriages of two people can't stay together for, you know, a couple of years, and for four guys to stay together that long, I mean it's you know... But it's important to all of us and you know I think everybody respects everybody else's opinion and listens to what everybody else has to say and that's important. And it's important for everybody to be as happy as they can," he said.
The band will tour the UK in January 2009, supported by Seether who are currently supporting them in the United States. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
