  • Story Text: Friends and relatives of those aboard Egyptair flight
    990, which crashed into the sea off the eastern coast of the
    United States, waited anxiously for news at Cairo airport
    today.

    EgyptAir officials held a news conference on Sunday
    (October 31) at Cairo's international airport, where relatives
    and friends of passengers on flight 990 are awaiting news.

    EgyptAir Chairman Mohammed Fahim Rayan gave a breakdown on
    the nationalities of the passengers aboard the plane.He
    indicated that the majority of the 197 passengers, were
    believed to be U.S.citizens."The last information that I got
    about the nationalities of the victims....62 Egyptians, 2
    Sudanese, 3 Syrians and one from Chile, Santiago.And the
    rest, 129, it should be Americans", Rayan told reporters.

    Contact with the Boeing 767 was lost after it took off
    from New York's John F.Kennedy airport with 197 passengers on
    board.U.S.weather authorities said there was fog in the area
    at the time the plane disappeared, off the Massachusetts
    coast.

    In the United States, Coast Guard searchers said they had
    found one body and numerous pieces of wreckage from the
    missing flight.

    EgyptAir flight 990 was carrying 214 people including
    crew.
